Children who are learning two languages or have language delays benefit greatly when activities are presented in both of their languages. Additionally, when young students are learning a new concept or theme, it is important to use as many of the five senses as possible to improve memory skills. 

There are numerous themes targeted monthly at the young elementary level, starting in preschool. The challenge arises when there are students who require extra support to acquire new concepts and vocabulary. Start scrolling though BilingualResources.org. The Earth and space science theme, maps and landforms unit, and the economy and community helpers unit are easier for language learners to grasp when the curriculum is adapted to their level. The Economy & The Community Unit can be obtained at Bilingual Resources for Therapists and Teachers. The community helpers were created with varying ethnic features to better represent culturally and linguistically diverse students in the public school system. This packet allows students to answer “wh” questions given picture choices in addition to targeting curriculum vocabulary, pronouns, prepositions, word associations, attributes, and sentence completion.
